Can’t/Cannot Uninstall ICQ 6 Toolbar/Search?

To fully uninstall ICQ 8, we’d better exactly know the installed items that have modified our Windows system – and if you wanna uninstall ICQ ASAP, you can ignore the following details (Step 1 ~ Step 3) and use this smart uninstaller to thoroughly uninstall your unwanted ICQ software:

How Do I manually uninstall ICQ 8 completely?

Tips & Recommendation: If you would like to quickly uninstall your current version of ICQ program, then please let this smart uninstall tool do the task for you.

  1. To safely and smoothly uninstall ICQ 8 on my Windows 7 system, I first log on to my computer via its superuser account, save and close other using stuff; for the running main application ICQ, then I find it in taskbar and right click on its app tray on the menu, launch option "Exit the application". See my attached image below for more tips if you just find it – you can also run Task Manager, locate the running ICQ in Applications tab, run End Task option for it to properly uninstall ICQ 8 on your own system.

  2. Then I hit the Windows 7 Start Orb button and click All Programs entry on the menu.

  6. As I’ve said that above, to fully uninstall ICQ 8, I need to remove the mentioned Search@Icq.com from Firefox’s Manage Search Engine List and restore my Google then.

  7. Then I go to the Aurora’s Add-ons Manager and then uninstall ICQ Toolbar 2.0.1.6 (Homepage, http://start.icq[dot]com) (by launching the provided Disable option for it).

  8. Launching Restart now option, I enter my Aurora’s Options part, remove the following URL "http://start.icq[dot]com" from Home Page item to cleanly uninstall ICQ and then, I click OK to close Options and close all the Aurora tabs (windows) to check out my steps above.

  9. What the F… (Sorry…) I find the ICQ Search remaining Manage Search Engine List, well, well, I have to remove it manually then.

  10. OKay, then I open my Windows Internet Explorer 9, remove the two items (http://start.icq[dot]com in Home page; Search@Icq.com in Search Providers) I’ve mentioned above from it to totally uninstall ICQ 8.

  11. To cleanly uninstall ICQ 8, I wanna manually detect and remove its additional program traces in my system.

  • You then go on clicking Yes button on ICQ 7.7 Uninstall, “In order to continue you need to exit your ICQ. Exit ICQ now?”.

  • Click on OK on ICQ 7.7 Uninstall window, “Are you sure you want to uninstall? You don’t need to uninstall ICQ 7.7 before installing a new version. Additional option: Delete ICQ accounts, saved passwords and message histories. (Not recommended if you plan to reinstall ICQ 7.7 on this computer)”.

  • Click Finish.

  • Tell your ICQ experience by selecting the options listed, Technical, Usage, and/or Other; or you can also click Cancel button on the Feedback Form (Figure 6)

Option Two: Run Windows uninstall utility to uninstall ICQ

  • Click Start > open Control Panel > visit Programs – Uninstall a program entry

  • You may need to wait seconds for the Currently installed programs list to be displayed.
  • Scroll down and right click on ICQ 7.7 entry and, select option Uninstall to start uninstalling it.
    • Product version: 7.7
    • Support link & Help link: http:/www.icq[dot]com

  • Again, you click OK on that ICQ 7.7 Uninstall window you will see.

Additional Mission: How to restore Home page, Search Provider and other changed items to fully uninstall ICQ 7.7?

This section will show you how to restore settings related with Web browser(s) installed, which would apply to Windows Internet Explorer 9/8/6, Mozilla Firefox 10/12/newer versions of it.

For IE users:

  • Launch ICQ Toolbar on Organize portion.

  • You can select option No on the following information from IE and the Uninstall ICQ Toolbar page will inform you that "You have successfully uninstalled ICQ Toolbar version 3.0. To complete the process, you must close all browser windows. If you would like to re-install ICQ Toolbar, go to www.icq[dot]com/download/toolbar.".

  • open Windows Internet Explorer >check, restore Internet options & Manage add-ons.

  • Save and shut down the webpage(s) you open
  • Re-open your Web browser(s) installed to check

For Firefox users

  • You click the title of Firefox, then Add-ons entry in it and then, Extensions, perform the Remove operation from it, click on Restart now link. You may encounter [JavaScript Application] info box, asking “An attempt to change your search engine was detected. Do you want to prevent the change?”, you then click on OK on it

  • Open up Manage Search Engines List, select the option Remove for ICQ Search and then click OK on Manage Search Engines List. Click on Firefox, select Options > Options in the subfolder > select option Restore to Default for Home Page section > click OK (Figure 15, 16) 3) Right-click on Mozilla Firefox (window) group, then you run Close all window(s) option at the bottom of that menu; if you enable the option “Warn me when I attempt to close multiple tabs”, you need to click Close tabs button on Confirm close window, informing “You are about to close 2 tabs. Are you sure you want to continue?”.Run Mozilla Firefox again to check-in the modifications you’ve made to it.

  • For some (secure) plugin or antivirus program conflict issues, you may need to remove Guard.ICQ by mail.ru to completely uninstall ICQ: click Yes on “Deleting browser protection service (Guard.ICQ)”, “This browser protection service (Guard.ICQ) protects Your computer against malicious programs. Are you sure you want to delete this service?”.

  • In case the icq Search remained, please review the video guide and it’s recommended that you run the perfect uninstaller to detect and clean ICQ registry traces remained.

  • Menu > Settings > Privacy > Spam control… link, enable the following options for it
    • Ask me before displaying messages from people I don’t know
    • Enable ICQ Anti-Spam to filter out spam messages
    • Do not show web addresses as hyperlinks

  • Install and run a real-time virus protection, scan any file you receive with the latest edition of the Anti-Virus software before opening it
  • Moreover, to stop receiving or block some unwanted, useless notifications, information, or other spam info, you blacklist the person: search the one > move the one listed in My Contacts (“Your contacts can see your real status and send you messages”) to Blocked Contacts (“These contacts can see your real status but you cannot receive their messages”)

  • Menu > My profile > Edit profile > you can make any changes to the items listed on General Info, About Me and School & Work
